Fleas

Fleas are creatures that can go unnoticed for a very long time. More often than not, they are invisible until you wake up one morning with itchy, swollen bites that weren’t there the night before. Having a flea infestation can definitely feel like a nightmare. They are hard to see and control, and on top of all the rest of these nuisances, they are able to spread very harmful diseases.

Pest Authority has the perfect solution, Barrier 360. This is a treatment that stops your flea infestation before it has even begun. It creates a flea-proof border around your home that stops fleas right in their tracks. No Contracts. No Commitments. No Fleas. Guaranteed.

How Did My Flea Infestation Start?

Fleas are tiny, wingless, insects that are able to jump long distances. They have a reddish-brown color to them. These insects often leave itchy bites that are easily irritated and become swollen and inflamed. Flea infestations often begin with household pets. When pets are outside, fleas can easily attach to them as your pet comes back into your home, they spread. There are some cases where an infestation will begin with rodents, raccoons, or feral cats that invade your home or live under your home in small crawl spaces.

Fleas do not have a one and done treatment because of their saturation in homes, so Pest Authority strongly believes that a comprehensive, long-term approach is necessary to rid the home completely of this pest. We start by eliminating the current infestation, then we track and exterminate any larvae and pupae that may be hiding on your property. We also like to give you tips on how to treat your animals to take preventative steps and trying to assure there are no future infestations.

Tips on Preventing Flea Infestations:

  • Wash your bedding and your pets’ bedding regularly.
  • Consistently wash and groom your pets by either taking them to the professional groomer or grooming them yourself.
  • Ask your Vet about preventative flea treatments for your pets.
  • Vacuum your home often, especially carpets and rugs.

You Might Have Fleas If:

  • Your pets are scratching or grooming themselves more than usual.
  • Itchy, swollen, red marks are appearing on your body, especially your feet, ankles, and legs.
  • You see any “flea dirt” around your home. This is adult flea feces, and it looks like coarse, ground black pepper.
  • You find small, reddish-brown insects that jump when approached or touched.

Facts about Fleas:

  • Fleas feed on animal and human blood.
  • Fleas are most attracted to cats, dogs, rabbits, and rodents.
  • Flea bites and feces can transmit harmful diseases like flea-borne typhus, plague, bartonellosis (cat scratch disease), flea tapeworm, and tungiasis.
  • Flea bites pose a risk of infection if the skin is not kept clean and disinfected after being bitten by fleas.
